While I understand that this will date me, I’ve learned in my “old age” to embrace more of the gray hairs and enjoy the people and things I’ve learned over the years. I’m reminded this Thanksgiving season of an old song by Petra with the lyrics
“I have a thankful heart, that you have given me
And it can only come from you…There is no way to begin
To tell you how I feel
There are no words to express
How you’ve become so real
Jesus you’ve given me
So much I can’t repay
I have no offering”
Often, I find myself unable to offer adequate words to my Lord on how thankful I am, not only for what he has done, but for the many AGO brothers that he has blessed me to be a part of their lives. I’m thankful for the time in college but way more thankful for the decades after. They’ve challenged me on how to love Jesus better. They’ve consoled me in times of pain and hurt. They’ve taught me much about the scriptures.
These things lead me to drive for many hours just to see a brother I hadn’t seen in years so we could catch up and encourage one another. While we may not see each other often, that commitment and history will be able to play out for eternity. I’m thankful to have that. Not many men do.
That’s why AGO is so important. How about this Thanksgiving season you reach out to some AGO brothers you haven’t seen or talked to in a while? I guarantee you it will be worth the effort. It always is. And you can express your thanks for the role they have played in your life, which in turn will lead to giving thanks to God the Father. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
