"Each Chapter is a Flame. Together, we are a Fire"

Mark 16:15 - "And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and

preach the gospel to every creature.'"

WHAT IS THE CHAPTER EXPANSION PROCESS?

Since 1927, Alpha Gamma Omega has impacted generations of young men through Christian brotherhood and spiritual leadership. As a unique Christian fraternity, it offers a place to grow in faith, friendship, and leadership. Starting a chapter can spark a lasting movement for Christ.

Our arrows represent the original 12 disciples, symbolizing their journey spreading Christianity northwest. Our fraternity adopts this imagery to reflect our own path of chapter expansion and spiritual purpose, following in their footsteps.

“Helping re-found the Omicron chapter at UNCC grew me not only in my leadership abilities but also in my walk with God.”

— Sean, Founder | University North Carolina at Charlotte

“Helping found a chapter of AGO gave me the opportunity to create a legacy that was worth leaving.”

— Hunter, Founder | Appalachian State University

Phase 1 - Discovery

1. Someone expresses interest in starting
Alpha Gamma Omega on their campus.

2. They complete a brief Interest Form and
join a video call with the Expansion Team.

3. The prospective Founder then gathers
an interest group, followed by a
Group Call with all prospects.

4. Each member fills out a Founder
Application, and at least 4 committed
Founders are needed to proceed.

Phase 2 - Approval

After receiving 4+ Founder Applications, the Expansion Team reviews and presents the opportunity to the Board, which decides based on:

  • Spiritual Fit: Founders must be committed Christians aligned with AGO’s values and conduct.

  • Campus Feasibility: Chapters are typically approved at 4-year universities with 5,000+ undergrads and Greek Life.

  • Interest Level: A strong, growing group is expected, aiming for 12–30+ members.

  • Staffing Availability: Expansion depends on available staff and regional support.

The review process usually takes 1–2 months.

Phase 3 - Foundation

Once a colony receives initial approval, they begin learning the foundations of Alpha Gamma Omega

  •  An Expansion Director is assigned to guide the group through bi-weekly coaching calls focused on AGO’s mission, values, and culture.
  • An Expansion Director is assigned to guide the group through bi-weekly coaching calls focused on AGO’s mission, values, and culture.
  • Learn AGO’s 3 Operational Pillars.

  • Elect a “Core Four” to serve as Executive Officers and begin chapter planning.

Phase 4 - Planning

Once the Expansion Director is assigned, the colony elects its 4 Executive Officers and begins recruitment and Expansion Week planning.

Founding President

• Leads the expansion effort

• Primary contact with AGO Headquarters

• Casts vision for the group

Vice President

• Manages operations and logistics

• Oversees budget, calendar, and meeting space

• Forms committees as needed

Chaplain

• Oversees spiritual development

• Prepares devotionals and outreach

• Connects with churches and ministries

Pledgemaster

• Leads recruitment and new member education

• Plans and runs Expansion Week events

• Ensures Founders meet membership requirements

The Planning Phase typically lasts 1–2 months. While Phases 1–4 have no fixed timeline, Expansion Week must occur during a Fall or Winter/Spring term. Timing of approval determines when Expansion Week is scheduled.

Phase 5 - Recruiting

The initial group must host an Expansion Week to recruit new members, aiming for at least 12.

  • Inspired by the 12 disciples, Alpha Gamma Omega believes 12 committed men can impact a campus for Christ. Founders are expected not just to grow spiritually, but also to reproduce and multiply
  • Long-term success relies on consistent recruitment. If growth stalls, expansion may pause or end. Exceptions to the 12-member goal are rare, as smaller groups often face operational difficulties.

The Expansion Director will attend the final event of Expansion Week and lead a formal pinning ceremony, officially recognizing the Founders as pledges of Alpha Gamma Omega.

Phase 6 - The Founding Process

Founders begin a modified 6–8 week new member process, which includes:

  • Weekly meetings

  • Learning AGO History

  • Conducting Interviews

  • Hosting Brotherhood Events

  • Completing Pledge Requirements

Before Informal Initiation, founders must:

  • Pay Dues ($300–$500)

  • Pass the Knowledge Test (90%+)

  • Complete all assigned tasks

Final Step:

Completing Informal Initiation

(Led by the Expansion Director)

Charter

Once the Founding Process is complete, the group receives an official charter, formally recognizing them as a chapter of Alpha Gamma Omega.

After chartering, leaders must:

  • Plan Rush Week

  • Create an Event Calendar using dues

  • Transition leadership to a Regional Advisor (who will oversee the next phase of development)

The focus shifts from excitement to sustainability. The chapter must:

  • Build lasting systems

  • Grow membership consistently

  • Train future leaders

  • Seek a chapter house or shared meeting space

Final Note:

Founding a chapter is just the beginning—it sets the stage for a lasting Christ-centered brotherhood for generations to come!
